NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team hosted Linfield for a Northwest Conference matchup Friday night, earning a hard-fought win, 2-0.
Recap:
Both teams came out looking to set up their offenses while registering shots in the opening minutes of play.
It was the Bruins, however, who managed to strike first in the 21st minute. Forward Daniel Alonzo sent a pass through the teeth of the defense to Alejandro Saldana who managed to slip the ball past the Linfield keeper, giving the Bruins the 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, the Bruins struck again. Midfielder Moises Manon tallied his fourth goal of the season on a beautiful shot from the right side, putting George Fox up 2-0.
The Bruins continued their solid play in the second half with a combination of persistent offense and staunch defense. The Wildcats were unable to score through the final 45 as George Fox earned the win on their home field, 2-0.
Top Performers:
Manon led the Bruin offense in this one, registering a goal and three shots. Saldana tallied the other goal while Kody Ulrich tallied two shots to round out the effort.
Andrew Phillis turned in a perfect performance between the sticks, tallying eight shots and earning the shutout.
What It Means:
The Bruins move to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will take on Willamette on Sunday for a conference matchup set for 2:30pm.
