SALEM, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team took on conference powerhouse Willamette on the road on Sunday, losing in a tightly-contested matchup, 2-0.
Recap:
Although the Bruins managed to take a couple shots early, it was the Bearcats who struck first with a goal coming in the 7th minute.
George Fox came close to scoring in the 10th minute on a shot by Moises Manon but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Bearcats struck again in the 30th minute to widen the gap to 2-0.
The Bruins played tough in the first half, outshooting Willamette 8-4 despite entering halftime down 2-0.
The second half was tightly-contested as both teams struggled to set up their offenses. With a chance to narrow the deficit in the 83rd minute, Sean Owens had a header shot that was saved by the opposing keeper.
The Bruins outshot Willamette 11-10 in the game.
Top Performers:
Owens led the Bruin offense in this one, tallying three shots, two of which were on-target. Manon and Trevor Martin contributed two apiece to round out the effort.
What It Means:
The Bruins move to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
