NEWBERG -  The George Fox men's soccer team kicked off the 2018 season with a home matchup against Multnomah on Friday, winning the game in exciting fashion, 4-1.

Recap:

The Bruins struck quickly, earning a penalty kick which was deflected by the keeper, then promptly sent into the back of the net by Moises Manon in just the fourth minute of play.

Multnomah responded with a goal around 34-minute mark, evening the score at one apiece.

George Fox retook the lead in the closing minutes of the first half. Manon scored his second goal, finishing a beautiful ball inside the box in the 41st minute.

The Bruins scored yet again, this time just under a minute later. Cassen Chisholm torched a Multnomah defender on the wing, then hit a laser from just out of the left side of the box into the far post, giving the home team the lead in dramatic fashion, 3-1.

George Fox dominated the first half, outshooting Multnomah 13-5.

The beginning of the second half was a back-and-forth affair, but in the 67th minute the Bruins managed to strike once more. Midfielder Isaiah Carrillo put himself in the right place to finish a ball that had deflected off the opposing keeper, setting the score at 4-1.

George Fox outshot Multnomah 22-13 over the course of the match.

The Bruin defense held the opposition scoreless in the second half as time ran out, 4-1.

Top Performers:

Manon was the man-of-the-match in this one, tallying five shots and two goals all while playing in a brace. Chisholm was a key contributor as well, tallying five shots, three of which were on target, and a goal of his own. Carrillo chipped in three shots on target to go along with a goal to round out the Bruin offensive effort.

What It Means:

The Bruins open the 2018 season with a dominant win and start Coach Biniam Afenegus' career at George Fox on a high note. "We're really pleased with the effort [we saw today] and there's been improvement through our scrimmages and today - what I really love is the reaction from our team after [Multnomah] tied the score at 1-1, and how resilient we were today," Coach Afenegus said of the victory.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins host Northwest (Wash.) on September 1st, with kickoff set for 5:30pm.
