Bruins Hang Tough Against Blues

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team hosted Whitman in a Northwest Conference matchup on Saturday, losing a tough one, 2-0.

Recap:

Whitman struck quickly, netting a goal in the first minute of play to take an early lead, 1-0.

The Bruins hung tough, challenging the Whitman defense a number of times throughout the first half. Tyson Horn paced the home team in shots, tallying four in the just the first period of play.

The Blues struck again in the 31st minute on a shot off of a corner kick, increasing the lead to 2-0.

The Bruins increased their pressure on the Whitman defense in the second half. Trevor Martin had a nice header shot in the 55th minute that was an indication of George Fox's improvement in the final 45 minutes of play.

The Bruins held the Blues scoreless in the second half, but they also were unable to find the back of the net as time ran out.

Top Performers:

Horn led the team in shots, tallying four. Moises Manon played solidly as well, contributing two shots and one shot on goal.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 1-5 on the season after the day's play.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins take to the road Sept. 22 for a conference matchup against Willamette set for 2:30 pm.
