SALEM --- The George Fox men's soccer team took to the road for a Northwest Conference matchup against Willamette University on Saturday, losing a close one, 2-1.
Recap:
The Bearcats found the back of the net early, scoring their first goal in the 7th minute to take the lead, 1-0.
George Fox played competitively after the early score, working to create a number of chances while fending off the Willamette offense.
The Bearcats struck again in the 37th minute to go up by two goals.
The Bruins responded by earning a penalty kick shortly after. Freddy Centeno slipped the ball past the opposing keeper and cut the lead to just one, 2-1.
The second half was gritty on both sides. George Fox came out of the gate with a pair of shots in the first five minutes: one a header from Rowan Blake and the other a shot by Bryce Towne.
The Bruins held the Bearcats scoreless in the second half while down a man (red card), but they were unable to equalize as the time ran out, 2-1.
Top Performers:
JD Ellis played solid in goal for the Bruins, saving seven of the nine shots that Willamette put on goal. Centeno scored George Fox's lone goal in today's play.
What It Means:
The Bruins move 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins have the chance to bounce back at home Sunday, Sept. 23, as they will host conference-rival Linfield at 12:00 pm.
