Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox men's soccer team traveled to Washington to challenge Whitworth on Saturday, but the Bruins ultimately dropped the 1-0 decision after an early goal from the Pirates.
Recap
Whitworth was hot out of the gates with their first attempt coming just 34 seconds into play. The Bruins recovered from the early press and recorded two back-to-back shots a few minutes later.
The hosts, however, scored the match's lone goal in the 15th minute when Eric Shaporda took a sliding shot off a pass into the box.
Horn almost found his second goal of the season in the 28th minute, but keeper Bo Broyles intervened, and WU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
It was déjà vu in the second half with several stoppages and the Pirates commanding the ball. After a threatening corner from Whitworth in the 53rd minute, Cole Bautista came close to leveling the score but caught a defender on both shots.
The Pirates held the reigns for much of the match, but GFU's backline held strong in the final 45 despite being heavily outshot. Rookie keeper Richie Seaman made four of his seven saves with less than 10 to go in regulation.
Diego Gil took the final attempt for the Bruins, but his late shot fell just wide, and Whitworth claimed their 1-0 victory.
