NEWBERG --- The George Fox men's soccer team shutout Whitworth at home on Sunday afternoon as Ohm Harape's game-winner snapped a five-game losing streak.

Whitworth held Fox to just eight shots on the day while the Bruin defense faced 20, but Ohm Harape sealed the 1-0 victory in the ninth minute of the game.

A foul set the freshman up with a free-kick just outside the box. The ball ricocheted off a defender and the goalie dove in the opposite direction, allowing Harape his first goal of the season.

In the 29th minute, GFU keeper Cole Benton made a diving save on what may have been the Pirates closest attempt at leveling the score.

Fox took immediate control coming out of the half and pressed the WU backline. A string of Bruin fouls put Whitworth on top as they dished out four shots in a matter of minutes. The Pirates could not break through.

The Pirates were quick and controlled much of the game in Fox territory, but the Bruins hung with them in a tightly called game that resulted in 45 total fouls. The Blue & Gold were successful in funneling their opponents down the lines, allowing the defense to set up for a stellar showing all game long.

Top Performers

Harape netted his first collegiate goal on one of his two shots taken on the day. Bryce Turnipseed was the only other Bruin to find the frame while Jackson Keller led with a team-high three shots. Cole Benton faced 20 shots and made five saves for his first shutout of the season. Drew Williams paced the Pirates with seven shots.

What It Means

Today's victory marks the Bruins' first conference win as they move to 1-5 in NWC action and 4-7-1 overall.

What Comes Next

The Bruins begin a three-game road trip when they head for Pacific (Ore.) next Saturday, Oct. 12. Sunday will feature a rematch of today's contest with Whitman. Both games will kick off at 2:30 p.m.
