Keller Scores Game-Winner in OT Battle at Cal Lutheran

Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- Jackson Keller gave the Bruins a crucial overtime goal after a scoreless 90 minutes, downing (RV) Cal Lutheran 1-0 at William Rolland Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Recap:

Despite CLU holding an advantage in nearly every offensive category, the Bruins held on for the 1-0 victory on the road. Both teams exchanged dangerous shots in the first 20 minutes, including two from Keller. The sophomore broke through on two occasions in ten minutes, but Kingsmen keeper Owensa Ebner was all over it.

The two teams split possession around the break with the Bruins taking over in the second half. Solek Ashkinos and Tyson Horn made attempts in the early minutes but to no avail, as the CLU backline held strong.

Cal Lutheran had two opportunities to dish out game-winners with a penalty kick in the 65th minute and a threatening free kick in the 77th. Freshman keeper Sebastian Lopez has continued to prove himself in the first half of the season, protecting the Bruin net on both accounts.

Kevin Garcia made GFU's final attempt in enemy territory but his shot went just wide with eight minutes to go in regulation.

The two teams battled but neither would find the back of the net in the first 90. In the 97th minute, Cole Bautista found a hole in the Kingsmen's defense that allowed an open Keller to seal a 1-0 victory for the Bruins.

Top Performers:

It didn't take the Bruins long to score in overtime action with the lone goal of a game coming from Keller off an assist from Bautista. Keller placed all three of his shots on goal with Ohm Harape and Miguel Andalon each adding one of their own. Lopez continues a fantastic debut season making seven saves on the day.

What It Means:

The Bruins stand at 3-2-1 before next week's conference action thanks to the strongest start to a season the team has seen in years.

What Comes Next:

Monday marks the beginning of homecoming week for the Bruins, but the men's soccer team continues its stand on the road. Fox travels to Pacific Lutheran for their first NWC bout on Saturday, September 21 with a noon kick-off.
