TACOMA, Wash. --- George Fox men's soccer faced its first nationally-ranked opponent this season as a second-half goal gave No. 20 Puget Sound the 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Bruins created scoring opportunities in both halves, but a steel Logger defense held the Bruins scoreless for the fourth straight game. Despite holding a significant shooting advantage, PSU only needed one to take home the victory.

A span of four minutes early in the first half saw a spark in the Bruin momentum as Bryce Turnipseed and Tyson Horn threatened the Loggers' backline. A dangerous attempt from Turnipseed in the 15th minute was the closest the Blue & Gold came to getting on the board early on.

The opening half would be a quiet one for scoring, but Puget Sound's 11 corner kicks kept Bruin keeper Sebastian Lopez on his toes. The freshman faced 11 shots and posted six saves before the break.

Coming out of a scoreless first half, the Loggers asserted their dominance with a goal 52 seconds into play. Cale Spence netted the lone goal off a cross from Gabriel Faro-White after skimming a nearby teammate.

Cole Bautista responded 12 minutes later with a second shot on goal, but Ethan Stern-Ellis refused to concede. The Loggers' backline would remain true through the remainder of regulation for the 1-0 win.

Top Performers:

Lopez put forth a nine-save performance while Turnipseed led the offensive front with one of his two shots coming on goal. Bautista and Horn were able to get shots off as well.

What It Means:

Fox falls to 3-4-1 overall and stays winless in conference action that opened yesterday.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins return home to host local rival Linfield next Saturday, Sept. 28 before heading to Willamette on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for noon at the Austin Sports Complex.
