SALEM, Ore. --- Willamette handed the George Fox men's soccer team a 2-0 shutout at Sparks Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins could not overcome the early deficit before the Bearcats added a late insurance goal to secure the win.

Recap:

Edwin Ortiz opened the scoring in the sixth minute, giving the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead on their first offensive chance of the game. WU continued to pressure the Bruins and forced keeper Cole Benton to make two of his four saves in the first 15 minutes.

After a slew of fouls and two yellow cards, Tyson Horn created space and ripped Fox's first scoring attempt but went wide. Jared McInnes followed suit in the final minute of play, but the Bruins trailed 1-0 entering the break.

The Bruins best chance came in the 75th minute when Ohm Harape slipped through, but keeper Mason Kelliher stopped his bottom shot.

The Bearcats struck again as Yushiro Shiomi got a clean look on the net with under nine minutes left in regulation. Jackson Keller tried to respond, but his shot went out over the left side, and the Bruins were held scoreless as time ran out.

Top Performers:

McInnes took a team-high two shots while Harape was one of four Bruins take a turn, placing his attempt on goal. Benton came up with four saves in the contest after withstanding 19 shots.

What It Means:

The Bruins are still searching for a fourth win with an overall record of 3-6-1 and a conference mark of 0-4.

What Comes Next:

Fox returns home next weekend to welcome a pair of NWC opponents from Washington. The Bruins take on Whitman on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. before heading over to Whitworth for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
