MCMINNVILLE, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer team recovered from an early deficit to run away with a resounding 2-1 victory over the Linfield Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
The Bruins began blitzing the Wildcats from the opening kick, dominating possession and outshooting their opponents 4-0 over the first 12 minutes of action. Despite the Bruins' control early on, Linfield struck first in the 29th minute. An Ashley Guldager free-kick sailed over Bruin goalie Sara Thudium's head and gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
George Fox would only need two minutes to respond. After Maggie Phillips' initial shot was blocked by the Wildcat defense, she recovered the ball and blasted it by to tie up the game. The goal was followed by 15 minutes of a fruitless but persistent Bruin attack, and the teams entered halftime tied.
To start the second half, the Bruins continued their offensive barrage. They shot twice and earned a corner kick in the first four minutes. On the corner, Willa Evans' kick was headed in by Maggee Hodgdon to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. After grabbing the lead, George Fox never looked back. The Bruins would only allow one Wildcat shot in the second half and coasted to earn their second victory of Linfield on the season.
