NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team battled hard through four periods and was down a man for most of it, but a last-minute goal by Linfield gave the Wildcats a win in extra time on Mar. 14 on the Bruins' home pitch.

How It Happened

The two sides battled through three scoreless periods locked in a 0-0 tie. Both teams had their opportunities in the regulation 90 minutes, including a PK won while playing a man down by the Bruins. After a foul in the 18 was whistled, Jeff Friedman stepped to the dot and took the shot, but the Wildcats' keeper was able to make the save.

On the other end, the Wildcats frantically tested Cole Benton with shots in the last five minutes of regulation and in the first overtime period, but each time the Bruins' senior net-minder was up to the task.

In the last overtime of the afternoon, playing in miserable driving rain, the two sides continued their battle and were evenly matched once again until the final moments. A pair of shots in the 107th and 108th minutes were stopped by the Bruins, but a final deflection got away from the Bruins and the Wildcats finally put one in off the rebound for the win.

Top Performers

Friedman put three of his four shots on frame and was the Bruins' most dangerous player on the attack all day. In goal, Benton came away with a loss but was outstanding with seven saves and constant activity in his 18.

What It Means

The Bruins drop to 1-2 overall and in conference, while the Wildcats bump up to 2-2 overall and level off at 1-1 in NWC play this season.
