Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team took on the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers on Wednesday, Mar. 31, to start a home-and-away series with a 3-2 loss in extra time.
How It Happened
After trading attacks and counters throughout the first 30 minutes of play, the Bruins lost a step and surrendered a goal in the 34th minute to give Pacific a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, however, George Fox got its equalizer from Bryce Turnipseed after a great ball played to him from Jamie O'Connell. The match stayed level at 1-1 through halftime and deep into the second period before a rebound was slotted home by Pacific in the 88th minute.
George Fox was able to level the score again in the 89th minute after pushing quickly up the field and winning a corner kick opportunity in short order. On the set piece, the Bruins swung the ball in from the right by Alan Rincon and Luke Hamocon won it out of the air with his right foot, burying it top shelf past a diving save attempt for the 2-2 tie.
After playing to a scoreless draw through the first overtime and most of the second, the Bruins were whistled for a tackle and shown a yellow inside their 18, giving the Boxers a penalty kick that they slotted home for the 3-2 win.
Top Performers
Turnipseed and Hamocon each netted a goal during the action to keep the Bruin in lockstep with their hosts, while Benton tallied five saves to keep George Fox in the fight.
