Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- Despite dominating the second-half attack, the George Fox men's soccer team fell 1-0 to a tactical La Verne squad on day one of the UCSC Tournament Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
La Verne controlled the bulk of play in the opening half, and their clean gameplay held the Bruins to nothing more than a couple of looks.
The first 45 saw chippy play with
Alan Rincón picking up a yellow card shortly after the start. Despite the physical battle and the constant force, neither team was able to lock in anything of substance before time was called.
The Bruins rebounded, settled their legs, and became a strong force out on the pitch after the break. George fox took control of the run of play, pausing briefly for a full-team, Leopard jersey change 15 minutes into the second.
The Bruins put together several good looks, including a pair of shots that would have found the back of the net, absent the two miraculous saves from La Verne's goalie.
The Leopards are the most threatening team the Bruins have faced this season in terms of set pieces, which proved to be the difference-maker in the 89th minute after Rincón's red card.
Top Performers
