MCMINNVILLE, Ore. ---
Connor Kong broke a 1-1 tie with a goal late in the second overtime period as the George Fox Bruins defeated the Linfield Wildcats 2-1 in McMinnville Saturday.
How It Happened
Leading 1-0 at the half on an
Alan Rincón penalty kick late in the period, the Bruins surrendered an equalizer with less than ten minutes remaining in regulation when Linfield's Max Testa scored from 20 yards out. Rincón had three more cracks at the game-winner, but went wide either side, with one shot on frame saved by Wildcat keeper Julian Inches with five minutes left.
In the first of two ten-minute overtime periods, the Bruins earned three corner kicks, two leading to shots, but Inches was able to fend off another on-target strike and the teams moved to OT2 still level at one.
Linfield's only shot in OT sailed high over the bar off the foot of Wyatt Ackerman. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Kong worked his way into the middle on the dribble and put the finishing touch on his second goal of the season, lifting the Bruins to their first conference victory following a pair of home losses to the Tacoma schools last weekend.Â
Top Performers
Rincon was one of five Bruins to play all 110 minutes, putting two of his team-leading five shots on frame. Kong was on target with both of his shots in the match. Both Rincon and Kong have two goals on the season.
Alex Muir once again went the distance in goal, finishing with three saves.Â
