NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins beat the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 1-0 in Portland on Sunday, as
Maggie Phillips upped her league-leading goal total to 14.
How It Happened
The
Maggie Phillips Show continued against the Pioneers with one of her most impressive shots of the season: After a series of deflections in the 27th minute, akin to a game of pinball, Lewis and Clark managed to clear it right into the foot of Philips. The junior lined it up and sent a laser into the back of the net from nearly 40 yards out. The goal proved to be the deciding shot of the game.
The Bruins were outshot in the first half, four shots to five, but the Bruin defense continued to be stellar, only allowing one shot on goal the entire half, with
Madeline Bailey recording a save.
The second half featured more impressive defense from the Bruins, facing only six shots, not a single one got by the Fox back line, completing their fifth shutout of the year.
Madeline Bailey had two saves, bringing her total for the game to three.
Top Performances
Outside the offense from Phillips,
Courtney Jones recorded a shot on goal, as did
Hannah Beardemphl. Bailey notched her fourth shutout of the season with three saves to boot.
