FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- George Fox softball traveled to finish its season series on Wednesday, Mar. 16, after rain pushed the final game off of its original weekend. The Bruins fell behind midway through the game after an error in the field, but their offense plated six runs in response and Fox prevailed, 10-4.
How It Happened
Fox scored the first three runs of the game after Sydney Sandifer hit her first collegiate homer in the first inning, and back-to-back triples from Alissa Yabumoto and Emma Classen in the second plated two more for the 3-0 lead.
A costly error in the fourth inning stretched out the inning and let the Boxers plate four runs to take the lead, but the Bruins got back on track afterwards.
Kamryn Potter led off with a double in the fifth and scored on an error by the left fielder to tie the ballgame at 4-4. After holding the Boxers scoreless in the fifth, Fox broke the tie with six runs in the sixth while continuing to silence their hosts.
Classen tripled again to lead off the sixth, Sandifer singled her home, Sharon Tomei doubled in a run, and Potter lifted a two-run shot out of the park for an 8-4 lead. Claire Fountain drew a walk after a pitching change and Katie Ladd drove another two-run shot out of the park to put the candles on the cake in a 10-4 win.
Top Performances
Ladd, Potter, and Sandifer all homered, and Classen went 3-4 at the plate with two triples and a stolen base as Fox notched eight extra-base hits on offense. Davis earned her fourth win of the series - a first for both her career and the program under coach Jessica Hollen's leadership - and the Bruins' offense registered 14 hits in their 36 at-bats.
Coach's Thoughts
"It's always great to get to a sweep and I thought we hit well today," coach Hollen said. "We're looking forward to getting after it at practice these next few days."
What It Means
The Bruins improve to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in conference, while the Boxers drop to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in conference. It also marks the first series sweep of 2022 for Fox in or out of conference play.
