NEWBERG, Ore. --- No. 16 George Fox advanced to the Northwest Conference Tournament championship match with a 5-0 win over fourth-seed Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Apr. 23.
How It Happened
The Bruins' doubles pairings made quick work of their opponents and finished all three courts in under 30 minutes. Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre defeated Alberto Dos Santos & Matthew Chio, 8-0, on court one in just under 25 minutes after dominating play at the net. Ryan Olson and Rox Rogers were the next to finish with an 8-1 win on court three against Miles Stone & Bennett Gazor, and Fox finished the sweep with a fast-paced 8-3 win on court two. Kristian Peev & Atticus Pallock paired to take three three games from Fox, but Camden Camacho and Vahag Pashayan were able to outlast their foes after building an early lead.
Playing a first-to-five match, each Bruin raced to get through their first set. Rogers finished his match first with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court three against Alberto Dos Santos, and Camacho finished the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Atticus Pallock on court six to halt play with the 5-0 team win.
Pashayan was one game point away from clinching the match and left his second set against Bennett Gazor unfinished with a 6-1, 5-1 final. Leach was leading Peev, 6-0, 3-1, Lemaitre was ahead 6-0, 1-0, and Luis Rojas was ahead in his first set against Stone, 5-4, at the halt.
What It Means
Lewis & Clark ends their season at 7-5 overall, while Fox improves to 15-5 and advances to the title match tomorrow at 12:00 pm in Newberg. They await the winner of Pacific vs. Whitman played at 2:00 pm today.
