SALEM, Ore. --- The George Fox softball program got off to a strong start in its series against Willamette with two wins in a rescheduled doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 7.
Game One
Fox got off to a great start in the game behind a one-run, six hit outting from Ashley Davis and plenty of timely hitting across the lineup. Kamryn Potter led off the ball game with a solo homer to dead center, Claire Fountain put a ball in play to center and legged out an inside-the-park score, and Katie Ladd pulled a solo shot out in left field for an early 4-0 lead.
The Bruins' lead was never challeneged and after a two-run shot from Sydney Sandifer and an RBI single from Brooke Riggins in the sixth, Fox won 9-1 in a shortened game against the Bearcats.
Game Two
Elise Wilkinson got the start and lasted three innings in a productive no-decision outing before Davis finished the game and earned the win with four innings and three strikeouts of scoreless relief work.
Once again, Fox built an early lead with two runs in the first. Sandifer drove in Potter for the early 1-0 lead, Kimberly Pulido drove in Fountain with an RBI single later that inning, and two more runs in the second inning gave Fox the 4-0 lead that would hold through the seventh.
Willamette got three runs across in the middle innings, but doubles from Sharon Tomei and Ladd turned into three runs in the fourth. Another double from Emma Classen in the fifth scored another, and Fountain finished putting the candles on the cake with a solo homer in the sixth for a 9-3 lead.
Top Performances
Davis earned multiple wins in a single day for the third time this season, and the four homers hit by Sandifer, Fountain, Ladd, and Potter led Fox at the plate.
