SALEM, Ore. --- After a close battle the day before against Linfield, the Bruins fell to undefeated Willamette team on Sunday, 7-0.
How It Happened
The Bearcats jumped out quickly, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes. Willamette's Ardem Baronian scored three minutes in with a shot from 17 yards to the lower left corner, and Jake Oetinger had the second goal six minutes later. A third goal from Willamette made the score 3-0 at half.
The second half saw the Bearcats score four additional goals in the second half to push the score to 7-0. Overall, the Bearcats recorded 13 shots in each half, testing the Bruin defense. In the closing minutes of the game, several Bruins got their first extended action of the season.
Top Performers
Cade Matsumoto totaled six saves on the afternoon, while
Kilinahe Waring recorded the lone shot of the day for Fox.Â
Coach's Thoughts
"Today we played a very good team and they showed their quality early and often, "said Bruin
Paul Karver, "as we continue to build continuity within the group we need to fight through games like this. We weren't good enough today but our best is certainly yet to come so we aren't worried."
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 1-5-2 on the season, with a 0-2-2 mark in Northwest Conference play. The Bearcats sit atop the NWC with a 4-0 record and 6-0-2 overall mark.
What Comes Next
The Bruins will be back at Austin for Homecoming on Friday, September 30th to host the Pacific Lutheran Lutes. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
