NEWBERG, Ore. --- After battling hard on both sides of the ball for both halves, the Bruins were unable to work past Pacific Lutheran in a 2-0 loss on Friday night.
How It Happened
After a contentious first half, both teams showed their defensive prowess by keeping most of the half scoreless despite scoring opportunities. Both teams settled into a defensive struggle, with Cade Matsumoto recording one save in the half. The Lutes took the lead in the 35th minute when Robby Guyer knocked in a ball off of a deflection to give his squad a 1-0 lead.
Out of the halftime break, both defenses kept the score close with intense play. However, midway through the half, Guyer once again found the back of the net for his second goal of the day. Though the Bruin offense made many efforts to break through the Lutes' defense, the final score stood at 2-0.

Coach's Thoughts
"PLU is a very well coached team with very good players," Bruin head coach Paul Karver said, "There is no mystery as to why they have been nationally ranked this year. The boys took it to them for long stretches this evening and we had a number of moments but we are struggling to convert those moments. The boys gave everything to play with a hi tempo and pressure and we will continue doing that as we move forward."
What It Means
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 1-6-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play. They hope to build on their many positives and regain momentum heading into the halfway point of their season.
What Happens Next
The Bruins return to Austin Sports Complex on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. to take on the Puget Sound Loggers.
