WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The George Fox women's soccer bounced back from their loss the game prior with a solid performance against Whitman, using a second-half goal to push past the Blues, 1-0.
How It Happened
Whitman started off the game heavy on the attack, recording two shots in the first five minutes, including one ball that was easily saved by
Emily Robey. From there, though, the Bruin back line locked in — for the remainder of the half, Fox allowed just one shot as neither team wrestled away control of the game.
Becca Kozak had the best chance of the first 45 for the Bruins off of a free kick in the 22nd minute, but the ball was saved by Whitman; at the half, the score was deadlocked, 0-0.
The Blues retained possession in the second, dominating the statistics. Fox was outshot 5-12 in the half as Whitman rattled off five straight shots over a 15 minute period. The only problem for the home team? The Bruins had already struck gold.
Willa Evans picked an opportune time to score her fourth goal of the season, scoring off of an
Isabella Hector assist in the 59th minute. After a corner kick saw Hector play with the ball on the far end, the freshman forward found Evans, who snuck the ball past two defenders and into the top left corner of the net for the goal. The next 30 minutes saw the Bruins bend, but not break, as Robey and the defense allowed pressure but did not allow a goal in to give the Bruins a 1-0 win.
