NEWBERG, OR. — After two goals early by the Blues, the George Fox men's soccer team kept the game competitive on Senior, but ultimately fell, 1-4, in their final game of the year.
How It Happened
The Bruins came out aggressive on Senior Day, but 18 minutes in, the Blues managed to sneak a ball into the goal to take a 1-0 lead over the Bruins. A group of Blues brought the ball to the left side of the net, managing to edge the ball past the Bruins defenders to give them a one point lead heading into the second half.
The Blues tacked on another goal early on in the second half after a corner kick into traffic bounced its way past the Bruins defense. The ball disappeared into the scrum, shooting into the net just out of the reach of goalie
Keoni Gavino to extend the Blues lead. Minutes later, though,
Eugene Peltier cut into the lead. Taking advantage of a yellow card against the Blues, Peltier wound up and drilled a bomb into the top left corner of the goal, cutting the Blues lead in half. Unfortunately, Fox was unable to even the score — with two shots clanging off the crossbar, and after the Blues tacked on two more points, the Bruins fell 4-1.
Top Performers
Peltier led the Bruins offense, recording three shots, two of which were on goal, and the Bruins lone point of the game. On defense,
Keoni Gavino recorded two saves.
Coach's Thoughts
"Tonight we caught hard against a quality Whitman program," said Bruin head coach
Paul Karver, "Down at half time, we had to take chances tactically, which lead to the goal but also put us in difficult positions defensively. I couldn't be more proud of how hard the boys fought this evening and all year long, it's a blessing to be around these guys."
What It Means
The Bruins finish the year at 5-11-4 overall and 4-8-4 in conference play. This marks a two game improvement in conference play, and is something the Bruins hope to carry into their 2024 season.
