Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Makensie Toole

Bruins Season Ends in Draw Against Whitman

NEWBERG, Ore. —  In their final game of the season, the George Fox Women's Soccer Team delivered a commanding offensive effort, leading the game for 88 minutes before settling for a draw against the Whitman Blues, 1-1.

How It Happened
The Bruins came out aggressive from the opening whistle, with seniors Hannah Hernandez and Hannah Beardemphl both putting shots on goal in the first five minutes of play. Fox continued to apply pressure, leading the shot count 8-3 in the half.

The pivotal moment of the period came in the 29th minute, when Taylor Ho ran the ball through the center before crossing it to Becca Kozak, who drove it into the net to give the Bruins the lead heading into halftime, 1-0.

The second half began with more of the same, as the Bruins continued to pepper the Whitman goal. Kozak, Beardemphl and Madison Fuller all got shots away within three minutes, before Fuller put yet another shot on goal, though none were able to get past Whitman's keeper.

However, momentum shifted late in the half, as the Blues began to apply some pressure of their own. Fox's defense initially held firm, and keeper Emily Robey made a good save in the 85th minute to keep the Bruins ahead. Yet, heartbreak came in the dying moments of the game, when Whitman managed to break past the Bruin backline and level the final score, 1-1.

Top Performers
Becca Kozak led the way offensively for the Bruins, recording four shots, and scoring the Bruins lone goal for the game. Hannah Beardemphl also had four shots, two of which were on goal. On defense, Emily Robey recorded one save for the day.
