BOISE, Idaho -- The George Fox men's tennis team faced their first of three straight D-I opponents, ending the day with two losses against top-ranked Boise State.
Match One
All three of the doubles matches in the first game were close, with the team of
Camden Camacho and
Vahag Pashayan losing, 6-4. Working together, the duo of
Eli Mizerski and
Austin Stone were able to push their match to an extra point before falling, 7-5.
Alle Banna and
Jackson Whittaker dropped their match, 6-3.
In singles, the Bruins continued to fight against the Broncos. In the #2 singles match,
Eli Mizerski found himself in a tight contest with Caden Moortgat. Mizerski was able to grab multiple games but found himself losing a close one, 6-4, 7-5.
Alle Banna also found himself in a tough contest with Teague Burger before falling, 6-4, 6-3.
Match Two
Coming back in the afternoon,the #2 doubles team of
Eli Mizerski and
Austin Stone was able to challenge their opposition, finding themselves tied at 6-6 and pushing their match to a tie-breaker game. Mizerski and Stone ended up losing the tiebreaker, 7-2.
In five of the six singles matches the Bruins lost the first game 6-1, but four of them came back firing.
Austin Stone was able to come back and grab five games but it was not enough to get the win, with the final score of, 6-1, 7-5.
Hunter Fujimori went head to head before dropping the second game, 7-5, ending the match 6-1, 7-5.
Two Bruins were able to take their matches to a third set, as
Lars Schmassmann went on to take his match to a third set after winning the second, 6-4. In the third and final set, Schmassmann went on to lose the final set 6-3, ending the match with a loss, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
Camden Camacho would go on to win his second game, 7-5, forcing a 10-point tiebreaking third set. Camacho would end up losing, 11-13, with the final score of 6-1, 7-5, 1-0.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was a full day of tennis with a lot of positive takeaways, and lessons from a great program," Bruin head coach
Jeff Cero said, "There was a lot of bright spots, and certain areas that we need to grow in, and the very reason for trips like these. All in all, I'm proud of the progress so far from this group, and we're excited to keep building and growing."
What It Means
Fox drops to a 5-7 record overall, while the Broncos are now 8-2 on the season.

The Bruins play again in Boise, Idaho tomorrow against the University of San Francisco. The match is set to start at 11:00 AM.
