WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The George Fox women's tennis team faced off against a formidable opponent in the 39th-ranked Linfield Wildcats in the semifinal of the Northwest Conference Tournament, losing, 5-0. 

How It Happened
In doubles, the Bruins had two narrow losses in the number two and number three doubles matches. Arianna Rader and Kalli Wiker pushed the Wildcats to the edge before losing, 8-7. The senior duo of Brenna VanderYacht and Ellie Mangan also went toe to toe with their opponents before losing 8-7. 

The Bruins were down 3-0 entering the singles matches and knew that they would fight hard to try and get the win against the Wildcats as they would only need to win two singles matches to take the win. In the number one match, Kalli Wiker was up against Taryn Fujimori, losing that matchup 6-2, 6-1. On court two, Olivia Morris dropped the first set before winning the second, and in the third set, she could not secure the win, losing, 6-1, 7-5, 6-1. Fox had their other singles players in tight matches, but they were halted after the final win was secured for the Wildcats, ending the match, 5-0. 

Coach's Thoughts
"The girls left it all on the court. We lost a couple of close matches in the doubles, which put us in a tough spot going into the singles," Bruin head coach Rick Cruz said, "??The girls fought hard in the singles matches, pushing most of their opponents but being down 3-0 was too much to overcome. I couldn't be more proud of how this group competed all season, and today was no different."

What It Means
The Bruins end the season with an overall record of  9-9, while the Wildcats improve to 12-2 overall and move on to the NWC championship match against the Whitman Blues.
