McCloskey and Takamiya Capture Major Awards, Bruins Pick Up Five All-NWC Awards

4/28/2023 2:00:00 PM

HILLSBORO, Ore. --- The Northwest Conference coaches have voted and the 2023 All-Conference roster and major awards have been announced. George Fox put all of their top five singles players on the All-NWC roster and was also honored with Coach and Player of the Year awards.

Alison Takamiya was named Northwest Conference Player of the Year for the second time in her storied Fox career. Takamiya finished third at the Fall Classic before winning both the Spring Classic and the NWC Championship to win the award. With her performance, the junior earned her third First Team honor.

Makenzie Toole joined her teammate as one of four first-team honorees, Toole's third nod in her career. The junior was victorious in the Fall Classic in Salem, before finishing runner-up in both the Spring Classic and NWC Championship. In September 2022, Toole competed at the 2022 LPGA Portland Classic.

2022 NWC Freshman of the Year Liana Brown earned her second career first-team award after finishing fourth, and third, and tied for second in the three major events of the season. Brown's 69 on day one of the Conference Championship gave her the fourth-best round in school history.

Avery Kageyama picked up her first career first-team selection after a stellar year in 2023. Kageyama placed second in the fall classic and sixth in the other two events.

Giselle Flint rounded out the Bruin honorees as she was named Second Team All-NWC. After missing all of 2021-22 due to injury, Flint finished 2023 with her first career All-NWC honor.

With five All-NWC players and her 13th consecutive Northwest Conference championship, Bruin head coach Mary Jo McCloskey was named the Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year and the ninth year overall.

"Wow—I am just so proud of our team!" McCloskey said following their conference championship win, "They really have worked hard all season long and continue to improve." We had three under-par rounds over the weekend in some difficult playing conditions. Plus—having 5 players make the All-Conference team along with Alison picking up NWC Player of the Year is very special as well. Now it's time to get ready for finals, and then we will get right back to work on the course next week to get ready for the National Championship. There is always more work to do."

The Bruins hit the course for the final time this spring on May 9-12 for the NCAA National Championship being played in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
