Bruins Drop Two Heartbreakers Against #7 Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Bruins led in both games of their rescheduled matchup against the #7 Linfield Wildcats, before eventually falling, 3-4, in each contest.

Game One
The Wildcats got out front first in the first game of the day, scoring two runs in the third inning – both getting in off of two errors from the Bruins. Fox got their first run of the game in the top half of the fourth when Emma Classen hit a solo shot to right field, then took the lead in the fifth inning when second baseman Kamryn Potter smacked a two-run RBI double to left.

With a 3-2 lead, starting pitcher Ashley Davis kept them off the board for two more innings, until Linfield managed to get a run across in the seventh inning – which sent the game into extra innings. The Bruins' offense couldn't score in the top of the eighth, being sent down 1-2-3 by the Linfield hurler. The Wildcats walked it off in the eighth on a solo home run from Brynn Nelson, giving the Bruins their first heartbreak of the day.

Game Two
The Bruins jumped into the second game, scoring two runs quickly off a Sharon Tomei two-run homer, her eighth of the year. Fox took the 2-0 lead into the third inning, one that they expanded to 3-0 off of an Aliya Harmon triple.

Their lead wouldn't last long however, as the Wildcats tied it in the third with a three-run homer, then hit another home run on the next at-bat. The back-to-back home runs put the Bruins down a run and put them in danger of losing another lead.

The rest of the game was a pitching showcase, as both pitchers refused to give up a run. Fox's pitcher Jenna Kister went three and a third innings, giving up no runs while facing 14 batters. The Linfield pitching was just as dominant, as Fox only managed to get three hits after the third inning.

The Bruins failed to score in their final ABs of the game in the seventh, going three-up-three-down to end the game and losing, 4-3.

Top Performances
Kamryn Potter went 4-8 with two RBIs, and Sharon Tomei went 2-4 in the second game with a home run. Emma Classen hit a homer in the first game as well.

What It Means
The Bruins fall to 16-12 (9-7 NWC), and the Wildcats improve to 25-3 (15-1 NWC).

What Comes Next
The Bruins play a Friday-Saturday series against the Willamette Bearcats, with the first game at noon on the 7th.
