Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. — Despite trailing 1-0 through the first 70 minutes, the George Fox women's soccer team stormed back with relentless offense to defeat the Multnomah Lions at home, 2-1.
How it Happened
The Bruins offense was aggressive from the opening whistle, as Fox recorded five shots in the first ten minutes of play. Through thirty minutes, the Bruins managed to fire thirteen unanswered shots, but solid saves from the Multnomah goalie kept the game scoreless. The Bruins continued to pressure the Lion's defense with shots from
Willa Evans,
Liv Haima and a right corner attempt from
Alexis Breer, but were unable to find the net. Despite outshooting Multnomah 16-2, the two teams were locked in a scoreless stalemate heading into halftime.
George Fox remained persistent early in the second half, sustaining multiple attacks while keeping the ball in the offensive zone. In a surprising shift of momentum, it was Multnomah that broke through to score first in the 65th minute. Megan Castricum's shot — the first of the half for Multnomah —-found the net from long range, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into the closing stages of the game. However, the Bruins were able to regain momentum quickly and leveled the scores in the 72nd minute, with
Willa Evans driving a penalty kick low into the left corner for a goal.
Evans fired another close attempt which was saved by the goalie before
Taylor Ho met a sprinting
Becca Kozak with a perfect cross from the left side that was tapped in for a goal, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Fox finished the game with ease thanks to an impenetrable backline, holding Multomah to a single shot in the second half.
Top Performers
Willa Evans played all 90 minutes in yet another impressive display of form, recording one goal and four shots on goal. Junior
Taylor Ho recorded one assist and four shots on goal, while
Becca Kozak's second half goal was her fourth in just three games. Freshman
Liv Haima was a standout performer in her fourth collegiate game, also notching four shots on goal and 84 minutes of field time.
Coach's Thoughts
"We made calculus out of addition and need to stop doing that." Bruin head coach
Laura Schott said.

George Fox picked up their second win of the season today and now sit at 2-1-1, while Multnomah falls to 2-3.

Fox will look to carry this momentum into their first conference matchup of the season, with a game against Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 12:00 p.m.
