REDLANDS, Calif. – The George Fox men's tennis team faced tough competition in California on Monday evening, losing to No. 28 Redlands 7-0.
How It Happened
Nanase Ebisu and
Vahag Pashayan lost their tough doubles match in the number one spot, 6-0. Playing number two doubles,
Lars Schmassmann and
Eli Mizerski won their match, 7-6.
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore teamed up for the number three doubles team; the two fought but could not secure the win, losing, 6-4.
In the singles matches,
Eli Mizerski was edged out with scores of 6-4 in the first set and 6-1 in the second.
Vahag Pashayan faced a tough opponent, losing 6-0 in the opening set and 6-2 in the second set. in the number five singles position,
Alle Banna put up a great effort but ultimately succumbed with scores of 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second.
Multiple Bruins found themselves in tough three set matches.
Hunter Fujimori lost in his match, 7-5, 6-2, 1-0 (9-6).
Lars Schmassmann lost the first set, 6-2, before coming back to win the second set by the same score, 6-2. Ultimately, Schmassmann lost the third set, 6-4, to Gustavo Marcanth, the 34th-ranked player in the nation. The third Bruin to find themselves in a competitive match was
Nanase Ebisu. Ebisu narrowly lost the first set, 7-5, then coming back to take the second set, 6-3. He was then unable to secure the win losing, 10-5.
What's Next
The Bruins are now 4-6 and the Bulldogs improved to 6-5 on the year. George Fox will return to the court tomorrow to play Williams in Claremont, California. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
