HILTON HEAD, S.C., – The George Fox women's tennis team finished out their final day in South Carolina on Tuesday. The Bruins faced off against the 37th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, losing 8-1, and then beat Oberlin College 8-1.
How it Happened - Wisconsin Whitewater
In doubles play, the Bruins found themselves in three closely contested matches. In the closest match, the number one doubles team of
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Kalli Wiker narrowly lost 8-6.
Shanah Denham and
Kylie Hull just lost their match 8-5. In the number three spot, the duo of
Cassey Hitch and
Arianna Rader lost by a score of 8-4.
In singles,
Kylie Hull won the lone match for the Bruins. Hull won her match easily, 6-1, 6-2.
Kalli Wiker and
Elizabeth Cook lost their matches by 6-2, 6-2.
Arianna Rader was able to secure one additional match, losing 6-2, 6-3. In number two singles,
Riley Bobkiewicz dropped the first set 6-1 before coming back to win the second set 6-4. Bobkiewicz lost in the tiebreak, 1-0 (10-5).
Shanah Denham found herself in a close match against Sarah Ferguson in number six singles. Denham went back and forth before narrowly losing the first set 7-5.
How it Happened - Oberlin
The Bruins had a quick turnaround, returning to the court against Oberlin College.
Kalli Wiker and
Riley Bobkiewicz teamed up again, this time reversing the scoreline, winning 8-5.
Shanah Denham and
Arianna Rader teamed up to easily beat their opponents 8-1.
Sophie Denham and
Elizabeth Cook won their match by walkover.
It was a day marked by contrasting tales in singles matches, with players either fighting in three set matches or convincingly beating their opponents.
Sophie Denham,
Cassey Hitch, and
Abigail Bond all won their matches, with the three only giving up four games combined.
Sophie Denham won, 6-0, 6-3. Hitch won, 6-0, 6-0. Bond Won, 6-0, 6-1.
Shanah Denham won her match due to opponent retirement.
The number one and two singles matches were tightly contested.
Kalli Wiker jumped out to win her first set, 7-6, before losing the second set, 6-3, and the tiebreak, 10-4.
Elizabeth Cook also won her first set, 6-4, then lost the second set, 6-0. Cook was able to secure the win, in the tiebreak, 10-1.
What It Means
The Bruins end the day at 9-4 on the season, Wisconsin-Whitewater improves to 8-4, and Oberlin falls to 1-10 on the year.

The Bruins return home to play against Puget Sound on Saturday. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
