SPOKANE, Wash - The George Fox women's lacrosse team took down the Whitworth Pirates in dominant fashion, with a 22-2 victory to round out their weekend Whits trip.
How It Happened
George Fox claimed the first goal when
Marena Tharpe made a goal in just over three minutes of the first quarter. While Whitworth struggled to find their game, the Bruins scored two goals back to back, one from
Olivia Geyling, another one from Tharpe. Only two minutes later, Tharpe found the back of the net again, and soon Fox led, 5-0. Whitworth finally made a goal in an effort to keep up, but
Ava Bluhm kept the five point lead, scoring another goal to give Fox an early 6-1 lead.
In the second quarter,
Lana Davis scored a goal in just under two minutes from the start to kick start another dominant quarter. The Bruins outshot the Pirates 22-8 in the first half, scoring 10 goals in the second; Davis scored the last of the quarter with barely 12 seconds left on the clock — the score at 16-1 headed to the half.
Morgan Maxfield scored goal 17 at the very start of the third quarter, and tacked on another late in the game. The sophomore went on to score three goals in the quarter, as Fox took a dominant 20-2 lead. Geyling scored the next goal in the first 75 seconds of the last quarter to kick off the fourth. Neither team scored a goal until Tharpe whipped out the last goal of the game with just over four minutes left of the game. Fox kept their giant lead, winning 22-2.
Top Performers
Seven players scored a goal in the game for the Bruins, with
Marena Tharpe scoring a team-high five goals on just five shots.
Ava Bluhm and
Lana Davis were next with four goals, while
Carleigh DeLapp led the team with two assists. Bluhm raked in seven draw controls while
Ana Flores led the way with five ground balls.
Emma Webb finished the day with seven saves.
What it Means
Fox improves to 9-3 for the season (8-0 NWC) and Whitworth falls to 9-4 (5-3 NWC).
What Happens Next
The Bruins will travel back to Newberg for another game on Friday, April 19 against Willamette. The game starts at 7:00 p.m.
