WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The George Fox women's tennis team faced Pacific in the first round of the NWC Tournament at Whitman College. The Bruins narrowly lost, 5-4, to the Boxers.
How it Happened
In doubles,
Kylie Hull and
Arianna Rader picked up the first win for the Bruins. Winning in under 40 minutes, 8-1, from the number three spot. In the second spot,
Shanah Denham and
Kalli Wiker teamed up for the second win of the day, 8-5.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Cassey Hitch lost the number one singles, 8-0.
Heading into singles, the Bruins held a 2-1 lead. In the number one spot
Kalli Wiker lost 6-1, 6-1, to Cassidy Binder.
Kylie Hull secured the next point for the Bruins after her 6-2, 6-1 win in the number four spot. In number six singles,
Sophie Denham won easily, 6-1, 6-1. The Bruins needed just one more win to secure the victory.
Riley Bobkiewicz fought with Sydnie Binder, losing the first set 6-0, before coming back to win the second set, 6-4. Bobkiewicz did not secure the win, losing the third set, 6-2. On court three,
Elizabeth Cook lost from the number three spot, 6-2, 6-4, tying the overall score at 4-4. It all came down to one final match,
Arianna Rader against Mia Yamaguchi. Rader came out strong winning the first set, 6-2. The second set was back and forth with Yamaguchi grabbing the set win, 7-5. In the third and deciding set Yamaguchi swept, 6-0.
What It Means
The end the season with a successful 13-7 season, including a second place finish in Northwest Conference play. The Boxers move on to play Whitman Sunday in the NWC Championship match.
