CLAREMONT, Cal. -- The George Fox women's lacrosse team lost their final game of the season in the NCAA Tournament's second round against Pomiona-Pitzer, 19-7. The Bruins jumped out to a big 5-1 lead to end the first quarter.
The Bruins started out on the front foot when they finished the first period with five goal.
Morgan Maxfield scored her first goal just five minutes into the game. Maxfield scored again only a minute later while the Sagehens fell behind. Fox jumped out to a three goal lead after
Marena Tharpe scored with 8:35 minutes left. The Sagehens scored their first goal of the game halfway through the quarter.
Carleigh DeLapp scored the next goal for the Bruins to push them back to a three-goal lead. Tharpe scored her second with 4:30 minutes left in the first period, extending the lead, 5-1.
The second period wasn't a hot one for the Bruins. Pomona-Pitzer their second and third goals right off the bat in the second period, but Fox worked to stay ahead when
Ava Bluhm scored the sixth goal of the game. That's when the Bruins started to lose steam as the Sagehens made their way in front with seven straigh goals, ending the second period up 10-6.
Pomona-Pitzer scored their next goal just about five minutes into the second half. The Bruins pushed to try to catch up in the start of the second quarter.
Lana Davis scored a stunning goal with 6:01 Â left of the game, but the Sagehens scored two more goals, putting them even more in the lead 13-7 to end the third.
Unfortunately, all that the fourth quarter had in store for the Bruins were six more goals scored by Sagehens. George Fox left the game with a 19-7 loss for their final game of the season.

Marena Tharpe scored two strong goals each in the first quarter, while
Lana Davis,
Carleigh DeLapp, and
Ava Bluhm scored one goal each.
Emma Webb had fifteen impressive saves.

The Bruins will be back for another season in the spring of 2025.
