Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. -- The George Fox men's soccer team lost their first game of the season against the Whitworth Pirates, breaking their undefeated stance with a score of 0-1.
How It Happened
The Bruins started the game off strong, but struggled to keep the Pirates off their side. For most of the first half, Fox was trying to find open spots, but couldn't seem to break through. The Pirates eventually lost their rhythm, unable to keep the ball, while Fox continued looking for a way in. However, in the 21st minute of the game, Whitworth's Becket Arthur found the back of the net from 17 yards out. Later, the Bruins began to find more of a flow with a shot by
Isaac Williams, but still, no luck for Fox.
At a throw-in by Fox, the Bruins began to find more control, and at 74 minutes was an attempted shot by
Johnny Keblish—a few minutes later was a blocked-off shot from
Talon Wagner, however, the Bruins had to face their first defeat of the season, losing 0-1.
Top Performances

Coach's Thoughts
"Traveling is always difficult and the first 35 minutes showed that," Said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "Whitworth did a fantastic job of taking advantage of the moment we gave them. We were much better in the second half, and if we can build on that, we will win conference games moving forward."
What It Means
The Bruins are at the end of a four-game winning streak and have marked a loss in their play book. This loss puts Fox at 4-1, and with the win, Whitworth climbs to 2-2.Â
