McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- In a game that featured plenty of fireworks, the George Fox men's soccer team rallied from an early deficit to dominate Linfield, 4-2.
How It Happened
The Wildcats came out hungry to score, attacking just seconds into the half.
Patrick O'Brien managed to record a save, but Linfield scored on the rebound to take a 1–0 56 seconds into the game.
Liam Urbina tried to get the Bruins back in the game, firing a shot in the fifth minute that found the hands of the Linfield keeper.
Eugene Peltier took a shot in the 14th minute, attempting to even the score, but to no avail.
A Linfield foul provided a free-kick opportunity for the Bruins. Peltier took the kick, finding Urbina among a group of opposing players. Urbina managed to get his head on the ball, sending it into the net for the Bruins' first goal of the game and tying the score at 1–1.
Kilinahe Waring attempted a final shot to put the Bruins on top in the 40th minute but couldn't find the back of the net; the score remained tied, 1–1, heading into the second half.
It was the Bruins' turn to overwhelm the goalkeeper with back-to-back shots to start the half. Peltier,
Carson Tapia, and Urbina each took turns challenging the goal. After the keeper collected two saves, the final shot from Urbina found the back of the net, securing the lead for George Fox and a brace for Urbina.
Alec Buongervino tried to extend the Bruins' lead in the 66th minute, followed by an attempt from
Raiden Renggli in the 70th, but the score remained 2–1 in favor of the Bruins.
Both teams found a second wind in the final ten minutes—George Fox clinging to their lead, while the Wildcats pushed to catch up. Walker Quincy extended the Bruins' lead to 3–1 with a goal-bound shot into the lower left corner. Just seven minutes later, Linfield found an opening and scored to close the gap to 3–2 in the 88th minute.
The Bruins weren't satisfied with a one-goal lead in the final minute. Tapia seized a last-minute opportunity to restore the two-goal cushion, closing out the match with a 4–2 victory.
