Bruins Seek Another Fall Classic Title, Lead After First Round

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- The George Fox women's golf team continues to show dominance on the green with a first place finish on day one of the NWC Classic, 319 (+27). 

Top Performances
Leading the Bruins was Katelyn Lam who finished day one in a stately second place with a 77 (+4). She succeeded the most in the back nine with two birdies on holes 12 and 17 respectively. Not far behind Lam in score was Samara D'Silva with a total of 78 (+5); D'Silva is in third place thanks to two birdies she scored with one on the front nine and the other on the back nine. 

Also making an impact on the course was Ashlyn Johnson who also had a birdie on each nine. Johnson is slotted in fourth place with a score of 79 (+6). Abby Matelski came next in 15th place, 85 (+12). She was another player that excelled the most in the back nine adding two birdies to her record. Completing out the score for George Fox was Sofia Itziar Ayesa. Itziar Ayesa ended the day in 27th place with a total score of 89 (+16). 

Over the course of day one of the NWC Classic, George Fox achieved a strong lead in first place with the closest teams — Lewis & Clark University and Pacific University — being 328 (+36) away. Individually, Lewis & Clark's Ahika Jani attained first place on day one with a cumulative score of 75 (+2). 

What Happens Next
The Bruins will continue to play for day two in the NWC Classic in Lake Oswego, Ore. They are looking to keep their lead and are scheduled to compete on Monday, October 13.
