D'Silva in Second, Bruins in First After Day One of Confluence Classic

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The George Fox women's golf team began their final tournament of the fall in the Confluence Classic; after day one, the Bruins are in an impressive first place against several other Northwest Conference teams, shooting a team score of 305 (+17).

Top Performances 
First up for the Bruins was Samara D'Silva, who finished in second place overall with a day-one 74 (+2). D'Silva had ended even on the front nine with two birdies and continued to do well on the back nine with another birdie. 

Right behind D'Silva in third place was Katelyn Lam, who shot a 75 (+3). Lam was very successful on the front nine ending under par with a 35 (-1). Ashlyn Johnson also had a great day on the green with a seventh-place finish, 77 (+5). She had a strong start on the front nine with two consecutive birdies. 

Next up for George Fox was Sofia Itziar Ayesa who gradually improved throughout the day and scored a birdie on hole 17. Itziar Ayesa finished in ninth place with a total of 79 (+7). Tying for 12th place and rounding out the scoring five for the Bruins was Abby Matelski, 80 (+8); Matelski also thrived more on the back nine where she got a birdie on hole 10. In individual play, Reyna Naranjo represented the Lady Bruins. She finished in a tie for 12th alongside Matelski with a score of 80 (+8). 

George Fox is in first place on day one of the Confluence Classic; the Bruins are followed by Whitman University in second place and Whitworth University in third. Individually, Whitman's Beatrice Archer is in first with a score of 71 (-1), just in front of the second-place D'Silva.

What Happens Next
George Fox will stay in Walla Walla Wash. on Monday, October 20 to compete to hold their number one spot. The contest will be moving from Veterans GC the Wine Valley Golf Course for day two.
