NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox men's soccer team pulled out a 1-0 win against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, breaking their streak and climbing to victory.
How It Happened
Right out of the gate,
Isaac Williams shot at the net, missing from lower left, and saved by Lewis & Clark. With this strong start, Fox kept giving their all when
Eugene Peltier attempted a shot in low right, saved again—
Luke Lidington shot the ball a minute later off of a corner kick, but missed high center.
Both teams had trouble keeping control of the ball, until Fox stole possession when
Carson Tapia and
Kilinahe Waring both attempted shots back-to-back—both were blocked by Lewis & Clark. Then,
Raiden Renggli shot from low left, and four minutes later, shot again—it was blocked, keeping the score at 0-0.
The second half began with a kickoff by the Pios —Fox stole possession with a corner, giving
Quincy Walker a clear shot, but it was saved again by Lewis & Clark's strong defense. Eventually, each team kept a back and forth rhythm with little to no progress on the scoreboard. But, Fox got some action again when Renggli attempted another shot, missing just to the left.
Peltier shot the ball in a fierce kick at the net from the lower left, but it was saved. Peltier ended up on the ground in a flurry of events, subbing out with his injury. After that, Fox had a run of three shots in a row, with Lidington's blocked, Waring's was saved, and Walker missed to the right.
The 75th minute is where the Bruins finally struck. Renggli sprinted down the field, passing it to
Reiker Swenson, who then scored a goal in low left, locking in a lead for the Bruins. Fox ran out the final 15 minutes, attempting more shots. Though they didn't find the back of the next, when the whistle blew, it was the Bruins winning, 1-0.
