NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- On day two of the Pacific Invitational, the George Fox women's golf team achieved their first win of the 2025 season. As a team, they moved up after a day-one second-place effort finished with a score of 622 (+54) and win the tournament.
Top Performances
Leading the Bruins and getting second overall was
Ashlyn Johnson. With a total score of 76 (+9), she earned two birdies and had high-quality play throughout the day. Right behind her was
Sofia Itziar Ayesa — another top finisher— in third place, 78 (+14) who also had a stellar day on the green.
Samara D'Silva was next for George Fox; she tied for sixth and had an overall total of 79 (+16). D'Silva had one birdie on the seventh hole to count to her record
Katelyn Lam finished in a tie for eighth with a cumulative score of 82 (+17). She ended the day with two birdies: one on the front nine, and the other on the back. Rounding out the top four was
Abby Matelski; she finished the invitational with a total of 84 (+19) and tied for 13th place. Playing for the Bruins individually was
Reyna Naranjo. She ended her day on the green in a tie for 20th and a score of 86 (+23).
The Bruins took the Pacific Invitational win for their own and were the top team out of eight NWC schools. On the individual side of things, Lewis & Clark University's Ahika Jani took first place, but was followed by Bruin's Johnson and Ayesa in second and third place.
Coach's Thoughts
"We started the day a little behind and it was a tough test, but our team showed grit and determination and got it done," Bruin head coach
MaryJo McCloskey said, "I'm really happy for the team with this first victory of the season. It wasn't the prettiest performance, as Pumpkin Ridge played very tough with tucked pins and some wind, but we'll take it. We learned a great deal and look forward to our continued growth. Now we have work to do before the NWC Fall Classic next weekend!"
What Happens Next
The George Fox women's golf team will compete next at the NWC Fall Classic in Lake Oswego, Ore., where Lady Bruins are aiming to add another win to their record.
