NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team kept Linfield close in their final game of the season, but could not put themselves on top on Senior Day, taking the 1-0 loss.
How It Happened
The Bruins opened the day with a Senior Day ceremony honoring its two seniors,
Alexis Breer and
Isabelle Carrington, but it was the Wildcats who came out swinging, the Wildcats took a shot in the first 40 seconds of the match but couldn't overcome the Bruin defense early. In the 29th minute,
Sarah Burkes took the first—and only—shot for George Fox in the first half, but it found the hands of the Linfield goalkeeper, leaving the score tied.
The Wildcats created nine opportunities to shoot but were held in check by
Marisa Lam, who recorded five saves in the first period and kept the score 0–0 at halftime.
In the 53rd minute, Linfield tipped the score in its favor, 1–0, with a well-placed shot. Bolstered, the Bruin offense began to come alive.
Liv Haima found a second scoring opportunity for George Fox in the 56th minute but couldn't find the back of the net.
Tess Scott followed with a well-placed attempt to even the score, but the Wildcats held their lead.
The final minutes became a battle for possession—Linfield working to preserve its advantage and George Fox pushing to equalize. When the final buzzer sounded, the score remained unchanged, resulting in a 1–0 loss for the Bruins.
