VIRGINIA BEACH, Virg. -- The George Fox women's softball team competed in two games Thursday afternoon. One against the No. 1 seed Texas Baptist which resulted in a 0-10 loss for the Bruins. Their second game was against Virginia Wesleyan who is ranked No. 6—that game ended in a loss of 5-10.
How It Happened
Despite a 0-10 loss in their first game against Texas Baptist, the Bruins put up a strong fight against the top-ranked team in the United States.
The second game started off with Virginia Wesleyan making a statement and putting up four runs onto the board. Fox player
Bethany Wilkes retaliated and had a single hit up the middle.
Madelyn Loughary pinch ran for Wilkes.
Kiley Harris doubled to right center allowing Loughary to advance to third base.
Nicole Campa had a single down the right field line giving her two RBI's and leading the way for Harris and Loughary to score.
Makayla Noone had a single up the middle of the field and advanced to second off an error.
Grace Wilson scored a run after an error occurred from the short stop.
In the top of the fifth
Sydney Sandifer was given the opportunity to walk and
Suzy Nichols pinch ran for Sandifer. Tomei singled to second base and Nichols advanced to second.
Morgan Palmer filled in for
Sharon Tomei. Wilkes was up next and doubled to right center. Wilkes had two RBIs giving Palmer and Nichols the opportunity to score two runs—bringing the score up to 5-6.
The end of the game resulted in a loss for the Bruins but they maintained a strong work ethic through the game against Virginia Wesleyan and they lost 5-10.
