NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The George Fox University softball team ended the Cross Bay Bash by suffering two losses against Christopher Newport this rainy weekend—the first game 0-9 with five innings, and the second game 1-6.
How It Happened
In game one, the Bruins struggled to get on the board offensively, as the Captains got on the base pads early and often.
Nicole Campa,
Bethany Wilkes, and
Brooke Riggins all finished the game with a hit, but couldn't find their way to home plate for any runs in a 0-9 five-inning loss to the Captains.
Though Fox didn't score any runs in the first game, the Bruins held a home run by
Nicole Campa in the top of the fourth inning in the second game with one RBI. Four first-inning runs from Christopher Newport ultimately were too much for the Bruins to overcome as they ended a long stay in Virginia with a 1-6 loss.
The Bruins played well overall on the weekend, as they capped off their road trip 2-5 against some of the top teams in the nation. They took down No. 16 Pfiefer and No. 6 Virginia Wesleyan, handing the Marlins their only loss of the year.
