ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Bruins dropped the third match of their trip, falling to No. 35 Wellesley 7-0 this morning.
How it Happened
Another day brings another doubles pairing, as Fox has now had four different lineups in their last four matches. Today,
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham took over the No. 1 spot, dropping their match 6-3 against the Wellesley top pair.
Sophie Denham and
Cassey Hitch tied things up for the Bruins, winning their No. 3 doubles match 6-3 and setting up a duel for the doubles point. The Blue ended up winning the rubber match as
Arianna Rader and
Cassey Hitch lost 6-3, giving the Blue an early 1-0 lead.
After tight doubles matches, the Blue took off in singles play, outpacing the Bruins to secure the 7-0 sweep. Bobkiewicz got the nod in the No. 1 spot, dropping her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Wiker put up a solid fight in the No. 2 spot, getting close to Sofia Corte-Real, but ultimately losing 6-3, 6-4 in the closest match of the day. The Denham sisters fell in their typical No. 3 and No. 4 spots, with Shanah dropping her match 6-3, 6-1 and Sophie losing 6-1, 6-1.
Juhree Kizziar and
Abigail Bond rounded out the lineup card for the Bruins, with Kizziar losing 6-4, 6-1 and Bond dropping her match 6-3, 6-0.
Coach's Thoughts
"Today was a tough match, but I thought we played really well in doubles," said Bruins head coach
Rick Cruz. "Cassey and Sophie had a great win at three and we were really competitive in the top two spots. Wellesley is the best team we have faced all year, and I thought we competed really well. I'm excited to see how we finish up on Monday and Tuesday!"
What Happens Next
The Bruins take the weekend off to practice and relax before heading back to the courts on Monday. They'll play Centre College at 5:00 am (PST) and Luther College at 9:00 am (PST) before closing out their trip against Union College on Tuesday.
