ORLANDO, Fla. -- The sunshine state saw the last of the Bruins women's tennis team today, as their match against Union College wrapped up their Florida swing.
How It Happened
Fox rounded out their trip with a 6-1 loss to Union today, finishing their spring break trip 2-4 overall. Despite dropping several of their matches, the team was still competitive in each match and put up a fight against some solid programs.
In doubles play, the team the Bruins fought hard in each match, but couldn't close any of them out to give Union the point. The pairings of
Riley Bobkiewicz,
Kalli Wiker, and
Arianna Rader and
Cassey Hitch dropped their matches 6-4 in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Both matches saw flurries of good rallies, but the Chargers capitalized late to secure the doubles point. The third and final match needed a tie-breaker to decide the victor, as
Sophie Denham and
Shanah Denham just missed their mark 7(8) - 6(6) to give the Chargers the doubles sweep.
Wiker was the star of the singles matches for the Bruins, picking up a thrilling 6-1, 3-6, 1(10) - 0(6) victory to get a point on the board. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it was the only match they were able to scrape out the victory in, as the Chargers took the other five matches.
Bobkiewicz got the nod in the top spot today, dropping her first set 6-2 before rallying back and nearly forcing a third set. Union's Chara Meidani was able to get it done, though, as she took the second set 7-5, stopping a Bobkiewicz comeback.
The rest of the matches were straightforward, with
Shanah Denham losing 6-3, 6-2, her sister Sophie losing 6-4, 6-1, and
Abigail Bond losing 6-2, 6-2. Hitch rounded the lineup out with a wild 7(7) - 6(3) loss in her first set before dropping set two 6-2.
