TACOMA, Wash. -- The George Fox softball team continued their winning streak with two more successful games against Puget Sound—the first game Fox dominated with a score of 14-3, while the score of the second game was a clean 9-0.
How It Happened - Game One
Right off the bat, Fox was able to get a hit in the top of the first inning, but neither team managed to score any runs. It was a slow start until
Jordyn Relethford homered with 2 RBI, and
Bethany Wilkes scored a run right after. The crowd was pumped as the Bruins were on their toes from that point on and left one on base with three hits and two runs for the inning.
Fox kept the Loggers sweating in their mits as the third inning began.
Nicole Campa singled and
Sharon Tomei advanced to second base, then, as Campa advanced to third, Tomei scored a run with Campa and
Kiley Harris scoring right behind. Fox was only making progress as
Morgan Palmer advanced to third and
Sydney Sandifer stealing second. As Sandifer made it to third base, Palmer scored, with Sandifer right on her toes. The score of that inning 7-0 as Puget Sound struggled to make a dent in the score.
The fourth inning was a little quieter for the Bruins as the Loggers attempted to make a come-back.
Kiley Harris homered to keep the score well ahead of Puget Sound, but the Loggers gained control when they gained three runs after a home-run and two more runs. In the fifth inning,
Makayla Noone hit a home-run, keeping their leading position, while the final inning was loud and proud for the Bruins. On a wild sequence,
Bailey Farrimond sit a sacrifice fly, and an errant throw brought in two runs for the Bruins—the score now 11-3. As Sandifer singled, Mashino scored; as
Brooke Riggins doubled, Sandifer scored; and finally, a Noone double brought home Riggins—the final score of the game was 14-3 as the Loggers turned in their final inning.
How It Happened - Game Two
Tinley Taylor started the first inning with a single, advanced to third base, and then scored the first run of the game on a Harris single.
Sharon Tomei was right behind her, scoring as an RBI single from Relethford brought here home. Eventually, Harris and Campa scored a run each on a 2 RBI single from Sandifer, advancing the score 4-0 in the top of first with five hits.
In the top of second, Fox stayed in the lead as Taylor stole second and scored a run while Campa singled. Shortly after, Campa scored and Harris doubled—the score was a strong 6-0, while the Bruins left the Loggers in the dust.
The third inning was sleepy, but Fox still had a hit. But they started to wake up in the top of fourth when Harris homered while
Morgan Palmer scored after pinch running. The score was now 8-0 with only one player left on base. The last inning began when
Makayla Noone singled and made her way around when she stole second and third.
Sami Stadtlander flew out to left field and Noone scored a run—the final score of the game was 9-0. The Loggers were not able to score any runs, giving Fox an advantage in the Northwest Conference.
Top Performers
Sharon Tomei had two runs and one hit for the first game, while
Bethany Wilkes had two runs and one hit with one RBI. Sophomore
Kiley Harris finished the game with two runs, two hits, and two RBIs for the day.
Sydney Sandifer had two runs, three hits and one RBI, and
Makayla Noone achieved one run, four hits, and three RBIs.
In the second game, Taylor Tinley had two runs and two hits and
Kiley Harris had two runs, three hits, and four RBIs overall.
Nicole Campa was also a top performer with her two runs, one hit and one RBI,
Jordyn Relethford had two hits and one RBI, and
Makayla Noone finished with one run and two hits for the day.
Coach's Thoughts
"We were able to have a lot of success against a pitching staff that has been pretty successful this year," said Bruins head coach
Nathan Ohta. "We had good approaches and got good swings all day. Our pitchers were outstanding today as well - it was a fun day at the ballpark."
What It Means
The Bruins improved to 10-8, while Puget Sound fell to 7-9.

The George Fox softball team will continue playing against Puget Sound this weekend on Sunday, March 30th to hopefully lock in another win. The first game is presumed to start at 11:00 am.
