NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins walk away with a 5-2 victory over the Pios on Sunday, completing the weekend sweep ahead of a tough Whits trip next weekend.
How It Happened
The doubles matches were competitive, as two of the three needed a seventh game to decide the victor.
Arianna Rader and
Kalli Wiker made quick work of their No. 2 match, winning 6-2 to kick things off.
Sophie Denham and
Cassey Hitch secured the point after a 7-5 battle against Lauren Smith-Euben and Emma Loucks. The final match was an intense one, with
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham getting it done 7(7) - 6(1).
In the singles matches, the Bruins secured four of the six matches to secure the 5-2 victory. Bobkiewicz got the nod in the No. 1 spot today, dropping her match 6-0, 6-3 to Susanna Anand. The Pioneers gained a quick 2-1 match advantage after
Shanah Denham lost her No. 3 match as well, fighting to a 6-3, 6-0 loss. Moments later, Shanah's sister Sophie tied the match up at two apiece after a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory over Allison Gabelman.
The decision paid off to move Wiker to the two spot today as she came through with a big 6-3, 7(9) - 6(7) win. From then on, the Bruins secured the rest of the matches, with
Juhree Kizziar and Hitch both getting it done in the five and six spots. Kizziar won 6-2, 6-3 over Anna English, and Hitch got the victory over Kacie Lau 6-3, 6-4.
