PEORIA, Ariz. -- The George Fox women's golf team finished up their second round of play in the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday, defeating a stacked cast of top 20 teams to win the event.

Top Performers
Alison Takamiya tied for the medalist position with teammate Makensie Toole, both had an overall score of 135 (-7) to wrap up the weekend. Takamiya had a record-tying day, scoring a birdie and eight pars in the front nine before an otherworldly five straight birdies and on the back nine. She finished the day up with a score of 66 (-5) — tied with her teammate Liana Brown for the lowest single-round in program history.

Toole finished up the weekend tying with Takamiya for first place overall with a score of 135 (-7). Toole had one birdie and eight pars in the front nine before coming alive with four birdies on the back nine. Her overall score for Sunday's round was 67 (-4), one of her best days as a Bruin. Overall, the two Fox golfers combined to shoot 14-under for the tournament, the best any two players had shot in GFU history. In fact, both seven-under scores set a tournament record, besting Kelsey Morrison (2012) and Sydney Maluenda's (2015) previous record of six-under.

Not to be outdone, Liana Brown placed in fifth place overall with a score of 143 (+1). Brown had one birdie, seven pars, and a bogey in the back nine. She then had seven pars in the front nine. Her overall score for the second round of play was 73 (+2).

Ainsley Carter wrapped up the weekend in fourth place for George Fox and 34th place overall, she had a score of 155 (+13). In the second round of play, her score for the day was 77 (+6).

Leanne Telle completed the weekend with a score of 159 (+17) and placed in 48th overall. Telle had one birdie on the front nine, with her overall score for day two was 80 (+9).

Katelyn Lam played independently and had a score of 150 (+8), placing 22nd, overall, while Samara D'Silva had a score of 159 (+17).  Reyna Naranjo had a score of 152 (+10) as an independent in her second round day, while Sofia Itziar Ayesa scored a 169 (+27) to round out the Bruins.

The George Fox women started their season out on a high note with a win — and one that's sure to catch the attention of the nation. Eight top-20 teams, including No. 1 Emory (who finished third overall), made the trip to Arizona, but it was the No. 6 Bruins who came out on top, scoring a 568 (E), the fifth-best tournament in program history and a Westbrook Invite record.
