NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins took another victory for their last game before the Northwest Conference against Lewis & Clark—a perfect 17-12 win for Senior Day.
How It Happened
Each team went back and forth during the first ten minutes of period one, until the Pioneers took the first goal. Fox bounced back quickly when
Claire Abraham tied the score 1-1. Then, the Bruins kept control when a ground ball was picked up by
Morgan Maxfield, passed to
Lana Davis, and then shot into the net by
Sasha Thayer. The Pioneers tied the score yet again, but
Naomi Rauch scored a goal, keeping the lead. Fox stayed ahead when
Stela Flores scored a solid goal, and then Maxfield had two consecutive goals in the final minute—the score being 6-2.
Fox came in with strength when a draw control was won and a goal was scored by
Ava Bluhm in the first thirty seconds of the second quarter. Bluhm again made a point shortly after with a clean free-position shot. The Bruins continued to gain momentum when Abraham and Maxfield scored two goals—10-3 with good distance. Fox began to lose steam though as Lewis & Clark gained a few points in the rest of the second quarter.
The score was 10-6 at the start of the third quarter, until the Pioneers scored two more goals, putting Fox in a panic. Maxfield put an end to that though when she scored a goal minutes later, putting the Bruins at an advantage again. Each team struggled to score for a while after that, but Fox put in their best effort to finish the quarter strong as Davis and Bluhm made goals, advancing the score to 14-8—almost doubling the Pioneers' score.
Abraham was determined to make the last quarter strong when she scored the first goal;
Merrick Gibson followed her with a goal, finally doubling the score 16-8. Davis was the last Bruin to score as the rest of the points went to Lewis & Clark. The final period score was a solid 17-12.
