Bruins Drop Both Games in Final Day of Pacific Series

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The George Fox University softball team lost both games to the Pacific Boxers, losing the first 1-0 and the second 8-3.

How It Happened — Game One
Pitching was the name of the game in the first matchup of the day against the Boxers; combined the two teams had just eight hits and a single RBI. Bruins starter Jordyn Releford came out of the gates strong, retiring her first nine batters faced and going hitless through four innings. The Bruins were able to pick up singles in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to move them past first.

In the fifth, the Boxers got a pair of two-out doubles that scored the first and only run of the game. The pair of hits took the game into the sixth with Fox down, 1-0.

In the top of the sixth Maykala Noone managed to get to second base with a single and a steal, but the Bruins were unable to bring her home and ended with a runner on second.

The Bruins were sent down in order to end the 7th inning, giving the Boxers the 1-0 win.

How It Happened — Game Two
The Boxers struck first in game two, grabbing two runs in the bottom of the first inning to put Fox down 2-0. The Boxers then exploded in the second inning, scoring six runs on five hits. GFU pitcher Bailey Farrimond came into the game with the bases loaded with two outs and got the final out of the inning to stop the bleeding, sending Fox to the third inning down, 8-0.

Tinley Taylor came up in the third with nobody out and runners in first and second, Taylor rose to the moment and cracked a single to center field that scored both runners and out GFU on the scoreboard. Sharon Tomei singled to move Taylor to third, and Nicole Campa hit into a fielders choice that scored a run to make the score 8-3 going into the fourth.

The Bruins were unable to get anyone around the bases for the rest of the game, and neither could the Boxers as the game settled into a pitchers-dual. The game ended in the seventh with the Bruins going down 1-2-3, ending the day with a 8-3 loss.

Top Performances
Jordyn Rutherford threw five innings, stinking out two batters and giving up a single run, and Tinley Taylor led the team in RBIs for the day with two.
